The Needles used are completely different to any you may have experienced in hospital or at the doctors. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine and give a sensation of tingling or a dull ache; they are all sterile and only used once.

treatment image Probably. The first visit is longer than the others (about an hour & 10 minutes) (subsequent visits 50 mins) as I use it to gather all the information needed to make my diagnosis. I will ask questions about your past and present health, take your pulse and also look at your tongue.
These last two give me some clues to your underlying health. There are three pulse positions on each wrist corresponding to your different organs in Chinese Medicine. Apart from measuring the speed of your pulse, I will also be gauging its quality. There is usually still time to give a treatment but occasionally there may not be.

treatment image A treatment usually consists of 10-20 needles. There are over 400 points in the body and some have more than one type of action. The most appropriate points are used for your particular condition. The sensation given by acupuncture needles is not the sharp pain you might expect but a dull ache, tingling, itching or heat. Having acupuncture is very relaxing - you might even fall asleep as many patients do. Needles are not always put where you might expect,
for example, if you suffer from headaches, you may find the needles are put in your arms or legs so don't be alarmed - this is quite normal.

This is very individual to you and your presenting condition. A course consists of 6-8 treatments but most people find improvement sooner.
